About Our Water Softeners & Filtration Service
Bryan Plumbing handles water softener installation in Florida for city and well water homes. We also put in water filtration systems and fix softeners that stop working. First we look at your water. Then we suggest the right setup for your home.
Most of Florida has hard water. The water under much of the state runs through limestone rock. It picks up calcium and magnesium on the way to your tap. That leaves white crust on faucets and scale inside showerheads. Hard water is not a health risk. It does wear out water heaters, dishwashers and ice makers sooner.
City water has its own issues. Many people do not like the taste or smell of chlorine. Homes on wells may have iron, sulfur or sand in the water. Each problem needs a different fix. Our plumbers are licensed and insured. We use quality lead-free parts and give you the full price before we install anything.
When to Call for Water Softeners & Filtration
Your water often shows you what it needs. These are the most common signs we see in Florida homes.
White crust and spots
Chalky rings on faucets, spots on glasses and crust in showerheads are classic signs of hard water.
Soap will not lather
Hard water fights soap. You use more shampoo and soap, but your skin and dishes still feel filmy.
Water smells like a pool
A strong chlorine taste in city water comes from the treatment plant. A carbon filter fixes that better than a softener.
Orange or brown stains
Stains in toilets, tubs and on the driveway near sprinklers usually mean iron. Iron is common in Florida well water.
Rotten egg smell
That smell in well water comes from sulfur. If you only smell it on the hot side, the water heater may be part of it.
Appliances wearing out early
Scale on heater parts, a tankless unit with error codes or gritty dishes all point to hard water.
Call earlyHard water builds scale a little every day. It forms inside pipes and heaters you cannot see. Treating your water now protects costly appliances later.
Our Water Softeners & Filtration Services
Water softener installation
We size the softener to your home and your water. We set up the bypass valve and drain line. Then we set it to save salt and water.
Whole house water filter
A whole house water filter takes the chlorine taste and smell out of every tap and shower, not just the kitchen.
Drinking water systems
Bryan Plumbing installs reverse osmosis and other filters under the kitchen sink. You get a separate faucet, and we can run a line to the fridge.
Well water filtration system
For homes on wells, we put in filters for sand, iron and sulfur smell. We match the system to what a water test shows.
Water softener repair
We fix softeners that stop cleaning themselves, brine tanks that will not drain and leaks at the valves or fittings.
Replacing old systems
We take out worn softeners and filters and put in new ones. We also clean up the pipes around them and add proper valves.
How Our Water Softeners & Filtration Service Works
Tell us the problem
Call or text and tell us what bugs you: crust, taste, smell or stains. Let us know if you have city water, a well or septic.
We check your water
The plumber tests your water for hardness and chlorine. We look at your fixtures and water heater, and find a good spot for the system.
Upfront price you approve
You get a clear suggestion and a written price for each option. We do not install anything until you pick one and approve it.
Install and show you how
We install the system and set the controls. Before we leave, you learn how to add salt, swap filters and use the bypass.
DIY or Hire a Plumber?
A water softener only works if it is the right size and set up right. If it is too small, hard water slips through. If it is too big, it wastes salt. Filters in the wrong order wear out fast. A drain line without an air gap can let dirty water back in.
Bryan Plumbing treats your softener or filter as part of your plumbing. Every install gets bypass valves and clean connections. Our workmanship warranty includes parts and labor.

Water Softeners & Filtration Tips for Florida Homes
A few simple habits keep your softener and filters working well.
Check the salt level
Look in the brine tank about once a month. Keep it at least partly full. Break up any hard crust on top.
Change filters on time
A clogged filter lowers your water pressure and stops working. Write the change date on the filter housing.
Skip softening for the lawn
If you can, keep sprinklers and outdoor faucets on unsoftened water. Your lawn does not need soft water.
Plan for septic
If your home is on septic, the softener drain needs a plan. Ask us about the right settings for your system.
Test your well after a storm
Floods can push dirty water into a well. After a hurricane or flood, test the well before you drink from it.
Clean off old scale
A softener stops new scale, but it will not remove old buildup. Soak showerheads and aerators in vinegar to clear it.
Water Softeners & Filtration Cost in Florida
The price depends on your water and the system you need. So we price it after we see both. You get an upfront price for each option. You approve the one you want before we install anything. These things affect the price most.
Type of system
A softener, a whole house water filter, an under-sink system and a well system are very different pieces of equipment.
City or well water
City water usually needs a simpler setup. Well water with iron, sulfur or sand may need more than one filter.
Size of your household
More people and more bathrooms mean you need a bigger softener or filter.
Where it goes
A garage near the main water line is simple. Moving the main line or finding a drain takes more work.
Extra lines
Running a line to the fridge or adding a drinking water faucet adds parts and labor.
Water Softeners & Filtration FAQ
Why is Florida water so hard?
Much of Florida sits on limestone. The water for both city systems and private wells flows through that rock. Along the way, it picks up calcium and magnesium. How hard your water is depends on where it comes from. Scale on faucets and inside water heaters shows up in most parts of Florida.
Does a water softener remove chlorine?
No. A softener takes out the minerals that make water hard. It does not remove chlorine. A carbon filter handles the chlorine taste and smell. Many Florida homes use both, a softener for scale and a carbon filter for taste. Bryan Plumbing can install them together.
How do I get rid of the rotten egg smell in my well water?
That smell comes from sulfur gas, which is common in Florida well water. The fix may be a special filter, a carbon system or a new water heater anode rod. It depends on how strong the smell is and where you notice it. A water test tells us which fix will work.
Can you drink water from a water softener?
Softened water is fine for most people, but it does add a little sodium. If someone in your home watches their salt, add a reverse osmosis filter under the sink. It gives you drinking water with most of that sodium removed. Bryan Plumbing often installs the two together.
Do I need a water softener for a tankless water heater?
In hard water areas, it is a smart idea. Scale builds up fast inside a tankless unit. That leads to error codes, weaker hot water and more frequent cleaning. A softener protects the heater and every other fixture. You should still flush the unit from time to time.
Why is my water softener not working?
The most common cause is low salt or a hard crust of salt in the brine tank. A stuck control valve or a clogged line can also stop it from cleaning itself. If your water feels hard again, call us for water softener repair. We find the problem and give you a price first.
